“HIV – I have my plans for the future”

The year 1999 is considered the beginning of the HIV-epidemic in Chelyabinsk and Sverdlovsk regions. On the whole, about 40000 HIV positive people have been registered lately. Today the overall stability is observed though due to the creation of the city programs of HIV/AIDS prevention, and the activities of a number of noncommercial AIDS-service organizations.
However today the society is facing another problem: a large number of PLWHA face the discrimination, stigma, misunderstanding, alienation from the rest of the population. The society is not ready for such a rapid growth of a number of HIV-positive people and has generated a number of gossips and myths about the illness itself. PLWHA are often stressed and depressed concerning their diagnosis. This way the hostile attitude of the society only aggravates their condition and shortens their lives.
Thus, the conduction of the vast informational campaign in two of the major cities of the Ural Region aimed at prevention of the PLWHA discrimination, and increasing of the population’s HIV/AIDS awareness, is highly crucial today.

Aim – forming the adequate and tolerant public attitude among the population of Chelyabinsk and Yekaterinburg towards the PLWHA, and increasing the awareness of the population in such matters.
